I am working on a Briggs and Stratton that looks similar that is also revved up way to high. I have replaced the diaphragm ,gasket, and carbonator on this engine. Cleaned it up but it still has the same issue of wide open revved up when it cranks. I stop it to prevent damage but do not know what is the problem. The governor springs are present and look ok. Any ideas what could be the issue? Lawn mower is old but just one day when I went to start it , the high revved up engine. A couple engine mounts to steel deck look slightly cracked also so that can give u an idea. Any help would be appreciated and welcomed. Thank you and keep up the great videos.

A lot of good tips, thanks..I had a Honda Izy SD..such a shame the bodies rot like hell..and the 16" is the worst for it..and the price of a replacement deck is shocking!! £££ I'm trying to salvage the engine on mine and hopefully mount it on another non Honda body, so wish me luck.

After I pull to start mine and it starts upon returning the cord it makes a noise like the cord is rubbing/catching on something spinning.

I have the same motor in a self propelled McCulloch mower which has started to revs its knackers off, do you know if the governor should have two springs on it, please.

Great video my mower did not start even with carb cleaner or engine start but after stripping down the carb clean all the holes and removing all the crud it started and runs as new. This video was not boring very informative. Learnt a lot with your tips and little tricks.

got a question for you. ive got a briggs and statton 35 classic just rebuilt it and full running. i got this free from someone who had left it dumped outside for years and the wheels had degraded and snapped off. im looking everywhere for replacements but have no clue what im looking for ? any help would be appreciated

Great video, i just got the 380r version today and was pretty sure there should of been 2 springs that came with it for the handle. There was instructions but no contents of what should of been in the box. I now know that it is just the 1 spring that is missing cheers.

Hi, love the video! Very useful! I’ve had a mouse chew through my ignition coil on my 300 series.. I don’t suppose you could point me in the right direction to get a replacement ignition coil? I’m struggling to find one online that says it’s compatible with this mower

I have a 10 yo mower with this Briggs and Stratton 450e engine. It revs up and down, as though the throttle is continually opening and closing. I watched another video of Mowerman's explaining how to clean the carb. I did that, and it was just the same. Then I figured the fuel was old. So I replaced it with new conditioned fuel. Then, still no better. Finally, I decided to simply replace the carb because they're cheap enough. Still no better. It also has a new spark plug and filter. I figured it may be the throttle governor, but I can't tell. Can anyone help, please?

Thank you, @mowerman, you saved our mower! It kept surging and stalling. I followed your video and stripped down the carb, especially the white plastic bit with the tubes in. All blown through with WD40 and reassembled. Runs like a train now! 😀

Screwfix currently (june 2024) sells a 'Titan' self propelled petrol lawn mower with a briggs engine for £199. I think its the same as the Mac Allister £254 that you're showing in this video but just re-branded.

Hi David, my gearbox is stuck in the on function. I have disconnect the cable that pulls the level on the gearbox but the wheels still turn when engine running (belt connected to pulleys). The lever on the gearbox box is a stiff and has a little movement. I was thinking of opening the gearbox and try to disengage or trying free up. I am aware oil will leak out. Is it possible to add oil and reassemble the gearboxes? Thank you in advance.

The screw for my filter cannister does NOT tighten into anything--- just spins and with motor vibration, the filter flopps around and is NOT doing what it should. I have gotten New screw and still doesn't tighten into anything. I have tried to make sure that the screw hole is NOT plugged with debris, and it doesn't seem to be the issue... Any advice?
